BRECKENRIDGE
A Rum Ritual at 9,600 Feet
Celebrate The Holiday You Didn't Know You Needed in Breckenridge, CO
Breckenridge has no shortage of reasons to celebrate. We gather for powder days, patio afternoons, live music, and just about any excuse to spend time with friends. But every now and then, a unique holiday comes along that feels like it was made for this town.
Part history lesson, part tropical escape, and entirely an excuse to gather, Black Tot Day at the world's highest tiki bar, Castaways Cove, brings a unique twist to summer in the Rockies. Expect rum-forward drinks, a lively atmosphere, and fun activities during this day dedicated to one of the world’s most storied spirits.

A Holiday with a Story Behind It
Black Tot Day traces its roots to a centuries-old naval tradition involving the daily rum ration given to sailors in the British Royal Navy. When that tradition officially came to an end on July 31, 1970, the final serving became a memorable moment in maritime history.
Today, rum enthusiasts recognize Black Tot Day as a chance to celebrate the spirit’s legacy — the craftsmanship, the culture, and the stories that have followed rum around the world.
Of course, Castaways Cove in Breckenridge has its own way of honoring traditions: bring good people together, add great drinks, and make a memory out of it.

A Taste of the Tropics in the Rockies
Castaways Cove brings coastal energy to Colorado with its tiki-inspired atmosphere and creative approach to cocktails. For Black Tot Day, the restaurant’s tropical personality meets a celebration built around rum, creating an experience that feels like a vacation without leaving town.
Owner Michael Beseda explains, ""Black Tot Day is in remembrance of the British Royal Navy Sailors receiving their daily ration of rum. We aim to celebrate rums of the world, rum heritage and and have a cocktail or two while we do it."
Think warm-weather flavors, creative pours, and the kind of relaxed summer celebration that makes you want to stay a little longer. Whether you already know your way around a rum cocktail or you’re simply looking for a new Breckenridge experience, Black Tot Day offers a chance to try something different.
